'Screaming' mobile phones to deter thefts
A new system has been developed which aims to reduce the theft of mobile phones, by making them emit a high-pitched scream if they are stolen.
The Remote XT system works by sending a signal to the mobile once it is reported as missing which activates the alarm.
The system also automatically disables the phone, meaning that information such as text messages, phone numbers and images cannot be accessed, and also that the handset itself cannot be used, even if the SIM card is removed.
The system will cost £9.99 a month.
Mark Whiteman, managing director of Remote XT, said: "By making mobiles unusable to anyone but the rightful owner, the phones become worthless and we'll see (the) market for stolen handsets stamped out."
