Russell Watson undergoes surgery for brain tumour
Opera singer Russell Watson is recovering from emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour.
According to a statement on his web-site, Watson was recording his new album in Capitol Studios in Los Angeles when he developed "excruciating" headaches and impaired vision. However, following a consultation, he continued to record for a further two days as he waited to hear whether the tumour was malignant or not.
The 39-year-old star returned to London for an operation to remove the tumour. The five-hour operation was carried out on Monday and a tumour, believed to be 8cm in size, was removed. The statement said that the operation had been "a complete success" and that Watson was expected to make a full recovery.
Recording of Watson's new album, 'Love Affair' has been on hold and the release, which was scheduled for November, will now be moved to early 2007. According to the statement, the star is expected to be fully recovered in time for his UK tour in November and December.
