Boy attacked by Rottweiler

A two-year-old boy is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after being attacked by a Rottweiler in East Sussex.

The toddler, named in reports as Harvey Lawrence, was attacked in his grandmother's front garden in Middleton in Bognor Regis on Tuesday.

He was bitten on the head, face, neck and body and was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester for treatment.

A neighbour, Mike Pepper, told reporters how he had been up a ladder outside his home when he heard a woman screaming.

He said that he grabbed a hammer and ran into the garden and hit the dog on the head to get it to back away from the child.

Police have seized the dog and said that the owner had voluntarily agreed for it to be destroyed.

The attack comes just days after a five-month-old baby girl was mauled to death by two Rottweilers.

Cadey-Lee Deacon was attacked by the dogs at The Rocket pub in Leicester on Saturday and died later in hospital from her injuries.
