Woman killed in police car chase
A 32-year-old woman has died after being struck by a Jeep which was being chased by police.
Two children were also injured in the collision which happened in Sunderland on Thursday evening.
Police had been following the Jeep Cherokee, which is understood to have been driving erratically, when they lost sight of the vehicle.
They were then directed by local people to St Luke's Road, where the woman and two children were found lying in the road.
It is believed that the group were hit while they were standing on the pavement.
The Jeep had been left in the road and the driver had fled the scene.
All three were taken to hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead.
The children - two girls aged 11 and 10 - were injured.
The 11-year-old suffered leg and arm fractures, while the ten-year-old is being treated for fractures to both feet.
The identities of the woman and children have not been confirmed.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Police in Bristol have discovered a woman and two children in the back of a refrigerated lorry. Avon and Somerset Police said the driver of the lorry reported hearing voices from inside the lorry. Police believe the woman and children were in the back of the lorry for two days before being discovered.

An investigation is underway following the discovery of the bodies of a woman and two children at a house in Stoke-on-Trent. Police say they made the discovery after being called to an address in Sherwin Road at about 18:35 on Sunday. A woman and two children were pronounced dead at the scene. No details of the victims have yet been released.

Baby Death Mother Named
The British woman charged with causing the death of her newborn baby in a hotel room in Crete has been named. Leah Andrew, from London, has been charged with infantide after being arrested in Malia on Tuesday. Ms Andrew was rushed to hospital by local residents after giving birth alone in her room.

Body Found In Search For Missing Woman
A body has been discovered in Sutton Mill by police investigating the disappearance of Jennifer Hayman. The body was found at 18:00 on Thursday. Formal identification has not yet been made, but police said that Ms Hayman's family have been informed of the find. A post-mortem is due to be carried out to establish the cause of death.
