Service held to remember dead Britons
A memorial service for Britons killed or injured in terrorist attacks abroad last year has been held in Southwark Cathedral today.
The service remembered the 13 Britons killed in the following terrorist attacks:
Hundreds of people attended the service, mainly relatives and friends of those who died, as well as some survivors.
A relative of each of the victims lit a candle of remembrance on the altar.
Among those who gave readings during the service were Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell and Trevor Lakin, whose son Jeremy was killed in the Sharm-el-Sheikh bombing.
Mr Lakin called on the government to establish a fund to provide financial help for victims of foreign terrorist attacks.

- The car bomb in Doha, Qatar, on March 19, which killed one Briton and injured 12 others
- A bomb attack, believed to have been carried out by Kurdish separatists, on a tourist bus in Kusadasi, Turkey on July 16, which killed one Briton
- Three bomb attacks in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt on July 23, which killed 88 people, including eleven Britons

Thirteen Britons who died in terrorist bombings in Sharm el-Sheikh, Kusadasi and Doha bombings will be commemorated later this month at a national memorial service. The service will be held on Wednesday September 20 at 2pm in Southwark Cathedral in London.

Tourists killed in Egypt bomb blasts
At least 23 people people have been killed in three bomb explosions at the Egyptian tourist resort of Dahab. Three of those who were killed were believed to be foreigners. According to reports, a German boy is believed to be among the dead, along with a Russian tourist.

Rangers defender Kirk Broadfood has been treated in hospital after an egg exploded in his face, it has emerged. The 25-year-old Scotland international was poaching an egg in the microwave at his home near Mauchline, Ayrshire, when the incident happened.

Chancellor calls on young people to volunteer
Chancellor Gordon Brown has called on young people to become community volunteers. Speaking at a national volunteering conference to mark 2005 as the official 'Year of the Volunteer', Mr Brown said that he wanted to create an army of teenagers similar to the 1960's Peace Corps in America.

440 Britons may have died in tsunami disaster
Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said on Friday that around 440 Britons may have lost their lives in the Asian tsunami disaster. Speaking at a press conference, during his visit to Thailand, Mr Straw said that 49 Britons had been confirmed dead, while a further 391 remained missing.
