Clear up continues after Yorkshire storms

A clear up operation in North and West Yorkshire was continuing today after heavy rain and tornadoes struck the area on Thursday.

Leeds and Harrogate were among the worst affected areas where some schools remain closed today.

Train services were disrupted after lightning knocked out signalling at Leeds station.

Insurance assessors are expected to visit the area today to inspect the damage caused by the tornadoes which damaged roofs and trees.

Fire and Rescue services were called to premises to help deal with flooding in premises in Harrogate, Selby and Reeth.

The storm which lasted some two hours dumped so much rain on buildings that several were flooded by a build up of rainwater on the roof which then flooded into the building.

There are reports that a house in Harehills in Leeds had its roof blown completely off. One man was injured by a falling tree.

Leeds City Council said that an information centre was being set up at the Crompton Road Library to provide advice for those affected by the storm. Three schools in the area are closed today due to damage caused by the flash flood.
