British soldier killed in Iraq

A British soldier has died after being involved in a shooting in Iraq earlier this week.

The soldier, from 58 Battery of 12 Regiment Royal Artillery, died as a result of injuries sustained in a shooting in the town of Al Qurna, north of Basra, on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.

The MoD said that the soldier's injuries were so serious that the medical team involved were unable to save him.

A statement released by the MoD said: "Our condolences are with his family and friends. Next of kin have been informed. No further details will be released until the family's wishes have been established."

Two soldiers from 58 Battery, 12 Regiment Royal Artillery died earlier this week. Gunners Samuela Vanua, 27, and Stephen Wright, 20, were killed in a roadside bomb explosion in Ad Dayr, north of Basra on Monday.

MoD Names Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
The Ministry of Defence has named the British soldier killed in Afghanistan at the weekend as Corporal Darryl Gardiner from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Cpl Gardiner, 25, was serving in Afghanistan attached to 5th Regiment Royal Artillery and 52 Brigade's Reconnaissance Force.

Second British soldier killed in Basrah is named
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has named the second British soldier who was killed by militants in the outskirts of the southern Iraqi city of Basrah on Tuesday. Gunner David Lawrence, 25, from Walsall in the Midlands, was serving with the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery when the convoy of vehicles he was travelling in was ambushed by militants.

Soldier Is Latest Afghanistan Victim
Another British soldier has been killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan. In what is fast becoming a near daily litany of tragedy, the soldier, from the 2nd Battalion The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, died in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province on Wednesday. Next of kin have been informed.
