Family pay tribute to fire death boys
The family of two young brothers who died in a fire at a flat in Llanfaethlu, north Wales, at the weekend have paid tribute to them.
Four-year-old Kyal Owen and his three-year-old brother Konnor died from smoke inhalation in the fire, which broke out at the flat around 1:30am on Saturday morning.
A man, believed to be the boys' father, was found outside the flat, suffering from minor injuries, after escaping from the blaze.
Police confirmed that a 32-year-old man was arrested, but later released on bail. His identity has not been released.
In a statement released by North Wales Police, the family described the two brothers as "full of life and fun" and "very affectionate".
The statement said: "They loved their mum and dad and would often bring flowers to mum after days out. They also loved animals and enjoyed going for walks with their grandfather and the family dogs, when they would visit the local park to feed the ducks and play.
"Like all young boys, they were extremely active and loved superheroes. Konnor in particular was a big fan of Buzz Lightyear and played games where he pretended to be the character. They both loved dressing up and playing superheroes like Batman, Superman and, of course, Buzz Lightyear.
"Kyal, the eldest, was due to start school on Tuesday, but sadly will never get the opportunity to meet new friends and take part in activities and games that he so loved. It was only a short time ago that he won his races at his nursery sports day, which made his family and friends so proud.
"The boys loved to visit the seaside near their home where they enjoyed crabbing and playing on the beach. Kyal loved swimming and spent hours paddling and swimming in the sea.
"The boys were much loved and will be deeply missed by all members of their family who are devastated by their tragic and untimely deaths."
North Wales Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the fire.
An examination of the scene by the police, fire service and forensic science service has now been completed.
