Father arrested over family murders

Police investigating the murders of a woman and her three children in Greater Manchester have arrested a man.

The bodies of Uzma Rahan and her children – Adam, 11, Abbas, eight and six-year-old Henna – were discovered at their home in Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester on August 20. Post-mortems revealed that all four had died from serious head injuries.

Police believed that the family may have been dead for up to four weeks before the bodies were discovered.

Rahan Arshad, Mrs Rahan's husband and the children's father, was arrested after he arrived at Heathrow airport on Friday morning on a flight from Bangkok.

Police said that they had been liaising with law enforcement authorities in Thailand following the discovery of his silver BMW at Heathrow airport on August 21.

They confirmed that Mr Arshad was questioned by Thai authorities at the Thai/Malaysian border on Wednesday and said that he voluntarily boarded a flight to the UK on Thursday to assist police with their investigation.

Mr Arshad will be brought to Manchester later on Friday, where he will be interviewed in connection with the murders.

Two people – a 40-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman – both from Burnage, were also arrested in connection with the murders earlier this month. They were later released on police bail.
