159mph PC found guilty of dangerous driving
A police officer who drove an unmarked patrol car at 159mph has been found guilty of dangerous driving.
However, Pc Mark Milton, who was acquitted of speeding and dangerous driving during a trial last year, was granted an absolute discharge.
The High Court had overturned the acquittal and ordered a retrial.
However, at Ludlow Magistrates' Court on Friday, District Judge Peter Wallis ruled that the officer from West Mercia Police had suffered enough throughout two-and-a-half years of court proceedings.
During the trial, the court was shown footage of Pc Milton travelling at speeds of over 100 mph on A-roads and at speeds of up to 159mph on the M54 on December 5 2003.
Pc Milton, who was an advanced driver, said that he had been familiarising himself with the Vauxhall Vectra because he had not driven it before.
The West Mercia Police Federation said that it would lodge an appeal against the verdict.
