Boy dies following air rifle shooting

A 12-year-old boy has died after being shot in the eye with an air rifle.

Mitchel Picken, from Baddeley Green, Stoke-on-Trent, died from head injuries on Saturday, two days after he was shot.

Mitchel was taken to University Hospital North Staffordshire on Thursday afternoon after the incident, which happened around 1:30pm in the Stockton Brook area of the city.

A post-mortem revealed that he died from a penetration wound to the head.

Staffordshire Police arrested two boys, both aged 12, at Greenway Hall Road, following the incident. They were kept in custody until around 8pm on Thursday night and were released on bail until the end of the month pending further inquiries.

Park Death Boy Died From 'Head Injuries'
A post mortem has found that a teenager beaten to death in a public park died from head injuries. Seventeen-year-old Amar Aslam was found in a West Yorkshire park on Sunday evening by two passers-by. Emergency services were called to Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury at around 7.00pm but Amar was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toddler In Pond Tragedy
An investigation has been launched after a three-year-old boy died when he fell into a garden pond. Ethan Read, from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, died in spite of his mother's attempts to revive him before the ambulance arrived. The incident happened at an address in Coney Weston. The death is being treated as unexplained.

Baby Dies After Being Bitten By Family Pet
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a baby bitten by dog in Sunderland. The three-week-old baby boy died in hospital following an incident at his home in Falkland Road. Police were called to the address at 04:15 on Saturday, 20 June. It is understood that the baby had been bitten by the families pet dog.

Boy Dies After Falling Into River In Argyll
A 10-year-old boy has died after falling into a river in Argyll while on holiday with his family. Emergency services were called to the incident at 13:45 on Tuesday. The boy was rescued by a passer-by after getting into difficulties. He was airlifted to Glasgow for treatment, however he later died at Yorkhill Hospital.

Double Shooting In Liverpool Leaves One Dead
Merseyside Police have reported that a double shooting has left one man dead and another critically ill in hospital. The incident happened on Ravensthorpe Green, Norris Green, in Liverpool at about 01:00am this morning. In a statement police have said a man, believed to be in his 30s, died at the scene.
