Beckham left out of England squad
David Beckham is facing speculation that his England career could be over after he was left out of the England squad for the friendly match against Greece next week.
New England manager Steve McClaren announced the squad for the Greece match, which will take place on August 16, a day after he announced that Chelsea skipper John Terry would replace Beckham as captain.
However, there was no place for the former captain, who resigned from the role after England were knocked out of the World Cup quarter-finals by Portugal.
The Real Madrid star had been suffering from an Achilles injury but was expected to be fit to play for England after playing for Real Madrid in a friendly on Wednesday.
Talking about the decision, McClaren said that he wanted "evolution, not revolution" when he was picking the squad, but insisted that the "door was still open" for Beckham.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon, McClaren said: "I have great respect for David. He was a fantastic captain for England, a great player and still is a great player.
"He took the news well. He was disappointed, but I got the reaction I wanted, which was that he would continue to fight for a place. I will never close the door."
Commenting on the decision, Beckham released a statement which said: "Having spoken to Steve McClaren this week I can fully understand that a new manager should want to make his mark on the team and build towards the next World Cup.
"I'm proud to have played for England for 10 years and my passion for representing my country remains as strong as ever."
David James and Sol Campbell have also been left out of the squad for next week's match. Joe Cole and Michael Carrick are both injured, while Wayne Rooney, who has been suspended from the first two Euro 2008 qualifying matches, has also been left out of the squad.

Surprise inclusion for Walcott in England squad

Man Jailed For 1996 Rapes
A man who fled to Ireland in a bid to escape justice has been jailed for committing two rapes. Dawid Wysocki, also known as Andrzej Wysocki or Arthur Bryewicz, 30, of Copenhagen St, N1 was sentenced to eight and a half years imprisonment for each offence of rape and 99 days for absconding at Wood Green Crown Court, to run concurrently.
