Man killed in Cornwall dockyard accident

A man has died after being injured in an accident at a dockyard in Cornwall.

Police and an ambulance crew were called to Queen's Wharf at Falmouth around 9:45am on Wednesday morning, following reports that an employee had sustained a fatal injury.

When they arrived at the scene, a male employee of A and P Falmouth was found injured. He was declared dead at the scene.

The man is understood to be a local Falmouth man, aged 51. He has not been named.

The accident is understood to have happened during the movement of a piece of heavy equipment being lifted on to the deck of RFA vessel Mounts Bay.

Further enquiries into the circumstances are continuing jointly with the police and health and safety executive.

Search Operation Launched For Missing Snorkeler
A large-scale search operation has been launched on the Helford River, near Falmouth, for a missing snorkeler. The snorkeler, a man aged in his 20s, is understood to have been missing since Thursday evening. According to reports, the man had gone out alone at about 19:00, wearing a dry suit and a weight belt.

Driver Arrested After Car Crashes Into Train At Level Crossing
An investigation has been launched into an incident in which a car collided with a train in Berkshire. British Transport Police have confirmed a car crashed into a train at a level crossing at Datchet in Berkshire at about 06:05 this morning. It is understood that the 67-year-old female driver was not injured in the collision.

One man has died and four others are in still in hospital following a major road accident on the M40 on Saturday morning. Police said the crash, which happened between junction 9 and 10 at about 07:45, was a "series of accidents in the same place at the same time".

Man Dies In Accident At Toyota Factory
A 56-year-old man has died in an accident at Toyota's vehicle manufacturing plant in Derbyshire. Police were called to the factory at around 00:40 following a report that the man, understood to be a lorry driver, was trapped between to vehicles.

Police Appeal To Missing Guests At Falmouth Beach Hotel
Police are assisting the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service which is dealing with a large fire at the Falmouth Beach Hotel in Cliff Road. The fire was reported just after noon on Monday and ten appliances are in attendance along with further specialist units and 100 firefighters.
