Drink warning issued after teen drowns
The Coastguard has warned the public 'don't drink and drown' following the death of a teenager, whose body was found on a beach in Folkestone on Thursday night.
A search involving lifeboats, the police and the Coastguard was launched yesterday for a 16-year-old girl who had last been seen drinking with friends by the water's edge near the Rotunda amusement park.
Her body was discovered on Thursday night. She has been identified by her family but her name has not been released.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has warned of the dangers of drinking alcohol close to the sea.
Earlier this month, the Coastguard launched their 2006 Don't Drink and Drown safety campaign, which urged people not to put themselves in danger along the UK's cliffs, coastlines and beaches when they have had too much to drink.
East Kent Sector Manager Andy Roberts said: "This type of incident is senseless, this girl had her life before her and is now another drink, drown statistic.
"This is but one in the number we will see this summer, and for these involved in the recovery of young bodies from the sea can be a traumatic occasion when they have families of their own. I urge everyone to please take care every time you visit the coast."

Teenager Drowns At Blackpool Beach
A 14-year-old boy has drowned off Blackpool beach. Liverpool Coastguard were called after two teenagers were spotted in trouble in the sea by Blackpool's Central Pier around 3:40pm yesterday.

Toddler found in sea dies: Father missing
A two-year-old boy who was found floating in the English Channel has died and police say that the search for the boy's father is continuing. At about 6.40pm on Sunday Solent Coastguard received a call from a yacht reporting that they had discovered a dinghy floating empty about a mile out to sea.
