Girl arrested over stolen bus

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested after a stolen bus crashed into 16 parked cars in Stockport in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Greater Manchester Police said that they received a report of a series of road traffic collisions involving a bus in the Reddish area, around 1am on Tuesday morning.

Police believe that the single-decker bus was stolen from the Daw Bank bus depot in Stockport before being driven to the Reddish area, where it was in collision with the cars and then abandoned.

The bus is also believed to have damaged a set of traffic lights and railings at the junction of Great Egerton Street and Lancashire Hill.

The 16 cars were damaged on Woodhall Road and Beechwood Avenue.

Police said that no-one was injured during the incident and said that that the bus had not been in collision with any moving vehicles.

However, several thousand pounds worth of damage has been caused to the cars and some are thought to have been written-off.

A 16-year-old girl from Heaton Norris has been arrested on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle and remains in police custody.

Enquiries are continuing and anyone with any information regarding the collision or the theft of the bus is asked to contact police on: 0161 856 6173 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
