Cadbury recalls chocolate bars over salmonella fears

More than a million Cadbury chocolate bars are being removed from shops over fears that they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Seven of the chocolate manufacturer's products are affected. These are: the 250g Dairy Milk Turkish, Dairy Milk Caramel and Dairy Milk Mint bars; the Dairy Milk 8 chunk; the 1kg Dairy Milk bar; the 105g Dairy Milk Buttons Easter Egg; and the 10p Freddo bar.

The contamination was discovered at Cadbury's Marlbrook plant, near Leominster in Herefordshire. It is understood to have been caused by a leaking pipe, which a spokesperson said had now been fixed.

The spokesperson said that the recall was being carried out as a precautionary measure, but said that any traces of salmonella in the products would be below the standard that would cause any health problems.

Anyone with any concerns can contact Cadbury's free helpline number on: 0800 818181.
