Soap star suspended over drug allegations

'Coronation Street' actor Craig Charles has been suspended from the soap opera, following newspaper allegations of drug taking.

The 41-year-old father-of-three was shown allegedly smoking crack cocaine during a car journey between London and and Manchester, in photos published in the the 'Daily Mirror' newspaper.

The newspaper said that it would be making the information available to police.

The star has now been suspended from 'Coronation Street', a spokeswoman from ITV confirmed. The spokeswoman said: "No immediate decision has been taken on the length of the suspension as further inquiries need to be made."

The spokeswoman also said that Charles had no comment to make at this stage.

Charles has also been suspended from his radio show on BBC's 6 Music digital channel.

Charles became famous in the BBC2 sci-fi sitcom 'Red Dwarf' and he also hosted 'Robot Wars' on the same channel.

He joined the cast of 'Coronation Street' last year and plays the co-owner of the 'Street Cars' taxi firm Lloyd Mullaney.

The 42-year-old star, who plays taxi driver Lloyd Mullaney in the soap, was suspended from the show in June, following the publication of photographs, which appeared to show him smoking crack cocaine, in the 'Daily Mirror'.

Man Arrested Over Michael Le Vell Abuse Case Tweet
Greater Manchester Police have arrested a man on suspicion of tweeting the identity of the woman accusing Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell of rape. It is understood the man was arrested in the Gloucester area and is 43-years-old. He is alleged to have tweeted about the ongoing trial of the actor, revealing the identity of his accuser.
