Gales predicted in UK

The UK is bracing itself for some strong winds and heavy rain throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday.

The Met Office said that a deep area of low pressure would bring unseasonably strong winds and heavy rain to northern parts of the UK, especially north-west Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Gale force winds, with guests up to 70mph, are likely to cause disruption to travel, especially in central areas of Scotland, the Met Office said. Heavy rain is also expected to lead to further problems with more than 100mm (4 inches) of rain falling in some areas of Scotland by Wednesday night.

Forecasters said that the worst of the weather is likely to miss southern areas of the UK, although higher parts of Wales and northern England are likely to see a period of heavy rain during Tuesday evening. South-eastern parts were expected to have some light rain overnight.

Later this week, forecaster said that conditions are expected to slowly improve with lighter winds, some sunshine but also the chance of showers over the weekend.
