Five appear in court over PC killing

Five men accused of the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky have appeared in court.

The five men - Yusuf Abdillh Jama, 19, from Whitmore Road, Small Heath, Birmingham; Mussaker Imtiaz Shah, 24, of no fixed abode; Raza Haq Aslam, 24, of St Pancras Way, Kentish Town, north London; Faisal Razzaq, 24, and his brother Hassan Razzaq, 25, both from Sebert Road, Forest Gate, east London - all denied charges of murder and robbery, as well as firearms offences, at Leeds Crown Court on Monday.

Mr Shah has also been charged with the attempted murder of PC Beshenivsky's colleague, PC Teresa Milburn.

PC Beshenivsky, 38, died after being shot as she responded to an alarm call at a travel agents in Morley Street in Bradford on November 18 last year.

PC Milburn was also shot and seriously injured during the attack.

All five men were remanded in custody. They are due to go on trial at Newcastle Crown Court on October 9.

Man pleads guilty to stabbing student
A man who stabbed a student to death on a train has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Thomas Lee Wood, 22, from Skelmersdale in Lancashire admitted killing first-year student Thomas Grant, 19, from Glouestershire who had been attending St Andrews University.

PC Ian Dibell Posthumously Wins Bravery Award
A national police bravery award has been posthumously awarded to PC Ian Dibell (41), who was killed when he tackled a gunman in the street near his home. Mr Dibell died while trying to disarm Peter Reeve, who had opened fire on a couple in Clacton, Essex, in July last year.

Four Arrested After Break-In At Clutha Bar
Two men and two woman have been arrested for allegedly breaking into The Clutha bar in Glasgow, the site of last months helicopter crash. On 29 November, a Police Scotland helicopter crashed through the roof of the pub killing ten people.
