Bank Holiday weather 'mixed' but improving
The Bank Holiday weather may be expected to be mixed across the UK, but the prospects for the rest of the week are looking more promising, the Met Office has reported.
Forecasters said that there are signals for another change in the weather next week.
Indications are that high pressure will gradually build from the west, bringing a return to more settled, warmer and quite sunny weather.
Forecasters have predicted a mix of sunshine and showers across the UK over the Bank Holiday weekend. Friday is expected to be wet in many areas, while showers are also expected on Saturday. However, drier and brighter weather is expected to be on the way on Sunday.
The Met Office said that mid-May saw a marked shift to wet and often quite cool weather for nearly all of the UK, due to a series of Atlantic depressions which dominated the weather.
As of May 25, the country as a whole had received 144% of its long-term average monthly rainfall.

Forecasters said that Saturday looks like being a fine day, but heavy rain, strong winds and much colder weather is expected to set in for Sunday and Monday, which could affect plans for travel and outdoor activities.

Women Motorists 'More Prepared' For Bad Weather
Women drivers are more likely to get caught out by severe weather, according to new research published by the Highways Agency. A survey of nearly 1,300 road users showed that women were less likely than men to make a journey by car after hearing a severe weather warning. Only 44% of women said that they would continue, compared with 62% of men.

In a marked change to the quiet and frosty weather of the winter so far, Met Office forecasters are expecting a mix of windy, wintry weather this weekend and next week. Atlantic weather systems will bring gales to many parts with spells of heavy rain and a mix of hail, sleet and snow showers.
