Police seek witnesses in teenager murder case
Police investigating the murder of a teenager in Kent have released CCTV images of potential witnesses to the attack.
Christopher Alaneme, 18, was stabbed in Sheerness High Street on April 21 and died later in hospital. Christopher, who was black, was found after police were called to the area following reports of a disturbance.
A 29-year-old white man also suffered stab wounds in the attack, but has since been released from hospital.
The CCTV images were broadcast on BBC's 'Crimewatch' programme on Tuesday night and Ken Police confirmed that the appeal has already led to two men seen talking to police after the stabbings being identified, as well as a phone call from a woman seen walking in the High Street.
During the show, Christopher's mother Agatha made an emotional appeal for witnesses to come forward.
In a statement released by Kent Police, she said: "He [Christopher] was a lovely, humble, respectful, polite and promising young man. Chris told me so many times that Sheerness is a lovely place and everyone is so nice. They welcomed him with open arms.
"I know that there are many wonderful people who have already helped the police with their investigation. I am also sure that there are many more people who could help, that for whatever reason, have not yet come forward.
"I would like to ask those people who saw what happened, or saw or heard anything which may help to come forward."
Deputy Commander for the Mid Kent area Superintendent Steve Corbishley said: "Christopher's murder and the attempted murder of another man has both shocked and saddened local people. The residents here have been supportive of this murder investigation.
"What is apparent is that there are a number of people who witnessed Christopher's murder and have yet to come forward. I would like to stress that, even though police have made a number of arrests, we need to speak with anyone who may have information relating to this terrible crime."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on: 01622 654860 or Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
Five people have been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and another man was arrested in connection with the inquiry. All have been released and are on police bail.
