'Miracle' needed for Rooney to play in World Cup
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has said that Wayne Rooney, who has more than one break in his foot, probably needs a 'miracle' to be fit for the World Cup.
The Manchester United striker has had another scan on his right foot and Eriksson said that the scan showed that Rooney had more than one fracture.
Speaking on Wednesday, the England manager said: "Miracles happen in life now and then, but I don't really know."
Rooney broke his foot in a Premiership match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
According to reports, Eriksson is still planning to name Rooney in his World Cup squad on Monday.
Manchester United also played down reports that the news would mean Rooney would miss the World Cup altogether.
In a statement, the football club said: "Despite stories in the press we believe Wayne is still six weeks away from full training."

The 20-year-old Manchester United star returned to Manchester for a scan on his broken metatarsal, which was fractured in a Premiership match against Chelsea in April.
