Suspect's Bigley 'trial' claims to be investigated

An al-Qaeda suspect has claimed that he is one of the group who were responsible for the capture and execution of British hostage Kenneth Bigley.

The al-Qaeda suspect is being held in Turkey where he is being questioned about bombing attacks on British interests in Turkey in 2003.

The attacks left 61 people dead including the British Consul Roger Short.

Louia Sakka, 33, a Syrian national is due to go on trial next month in connection with charges relating to the funding of bombing attacks. His lawyer, Osman Karahan, has told interrogators that his client denies involvement in the bombings but that he was one of those who had “sentenced” Mr Bigley to death at a mock trial held in Iraq.

Mr Bigley, a contractor from Liverpool, was murdered in October 2004 allegedly under the orders of terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

However, while the claim by Mr Sakka that he was involved has not been verified by intelligence sources, it will nonetheless be investigated.

Mr Sakka is also accused of being a member of a group that beheaded an Iraqi lorry driver.

The body of 62-year-old Ken Bigley, who was kidnapped along with with two Americans, has not been found.
