Nigerian militants release hostages
Nigerian militants have freed three oil workers, including a British man, who were taken hostage over a month ago.
John Hudspith, who worked for US firm Willbros, was released this morning along with two American colleagues, Cody Oswald and Russell Spell.
The men had been in a group of nine foreign workers who were kidnapped last month in the Niger Delta. The other hostages were released last month.
The group behind the kidnappings, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, had called for Nigeria's oil wealth to be distributed more equally. The group had also called for compensation for oil pollution, as well as the release of two jailed local leaders.
There has been a series of militant attacks on Western targets in Nigeria's oil producing Niger Delta region.
Mr Hudspith's family has released a statement through the Foreign Office. It said: "John's release has come as a huge relief for all his family. The time spent waiting for this moment has tested each of those that care for him and our appreciation goes to all those responsible for securing John's freedom.
"We would also like to thank our friends and colleagues for their love and support through this difficult time."
