Murdered witness family receives £50,000
The family of a man shot dead before he was due to give evidence in a trial have been awarded £50,000 in damages.
Optician Giles Van Colle, 25, was shot dead at his shop in Mill Hill, north London in November 2000.
He had been due to give evidence at the trial of former employee Daniel Brougham, who was facing charges of theft from three companies, including Mr Van Colle's.
Brougham was later convicted of Mr Van Colle's murder.
It emerged that Mr Van Colle had endured repeated threats prior to the murder.
Mr Van Colle's parents had brought the legal action against Hertfordshire Police, claiming that they had "done nothing" to protect their son.

Man In Critical Condition Following Acid Attack
A man is in a critical condition in hospital after acid was thrown in his face in Cornwall. The attack happened in Carrine Road, Truro, on Tuesday 9 December. He is currently being treated at Treliske Hospital. Police are appealing to speak to the driver of a red Peugeot van seen in Carrine Road around the time of the incident.

Libyan Air Force Neutralised
The RAF's commander of the air operations over Libya, Air Vice-Marshal Greg Bagwell, has reported that the Libyan Air Force 'no longer exists as a fighting force'. Speaking from Gioia del Colle air base, near Bari in southern Italy, Air Vice-Marshal Bagwell said: "We are now applying sustained, unrelenting pressure on the Libyan Armed Forces.

Police Van Death Probe
An investigation has launched into the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a marked police van. Kenneth Thiel-Furber, 26, of Whitchurch died in the early hours of Saturday. He was hit by a Vauxhall Vivaro van on the A41 by the Wrexham Road roundabout. He was confirmed dead at the scene.
