Thirteen arrested in bank fraud investigation

Police have arrested thirteen people in connection with an investigation into a multi-million pound banking fraud.

The arrests were made following a series of raids co-ordinated by the City of London police, in west London and Bradford this morning.

Eight men and five women were arrested. A bank employee is understood to be among those arrested.

Police said that the investigation concerned a number of false bank accounts, which are believed to have been used to defraud banks out of as much as £3 million.

It is understood that searches are continuing at several properties in connection with the investigation.

Eight Men Arrested Following Dawn Raids

Teenager Arrested Over Rape Of 12-Year-Old Girl
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the rape of 12-year-old girl in east London. Three males lead the girl to a "secluded" end of a street in Walthamstow at around 00:15 on Saturday before two of them attacked her, held her down and raped her.

Bank Of England Maintains Bank Rate At 0.5%
The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee today voted to maintain the official Bank Rate paid on commercial bank reserves at 0.5%. The Committee also voted to maintain the stock of asset purchases financed by the issuance of central bank reserves at £200 billion. The previous change in Bank Rate was a reduction of 0.5 percentage points to 0.

Liverpool Teenager Arrested In Connection With Armed Bank Robbery
A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery of a bank in Liverpool. It is understood that a branch of Barclays bank in Breck Road was robbed at gunpoint at around 11:50am on Friday.

UK Internet Fraud Foiled In Meath
An international investigation into a €4million UK internet scam has led Irish police to raid a house in County Meath. Garda fraud squad officers seized a quantity of documents while assisting an investigation by the London Metropolitan Police Service's e-Crime Unit.
