Wounded Pc requires more surgery
The young female Nottinghamshire Police Constable shot on Tuesday has had further surgery to investigate a setback in her condition.
Pc Rachael Bown, 23, who was shot and seriously wounded in the abdomen, required further surgery when her condition deteriorated.
Following surgery staff at the Queens Medical Centre described her condition as "stable" in intensive care.
Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Steve Green said: “This is a very worrying time for everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rachael and her family."
“We hope and pray Rachael will make good progress and that her youth and strength will continue to stand her in good stead.
“We have never underestimated the seriousness of her injuries and her recovery was never likely to be straightforward."
Her family have been at her bedside throughout.
On Tuesday morning Rachael had regained consciousness and spoke to her family to apologise as she thought she would "get the sack".
Her father, who described the nightmare for the family, said that was just the sort of person she was "always thinking of others and would hate to think she had let anyone down".
The probationary Police Constable was shot below her standard issue body armour as she and a fellow officer investigated a report of a break-in.
