Body found near abduction site identified
The body of a man, found in a house in the area where a six-year-old girl was abducted and sexually assaulted last week, has been identified.
Police found the body of Lee Stephen Bayley, 30, when they went to investigate reports of a sudden death at an address in Bewicke Road in the Willington Quay area on Thursday afternoon.
Northumbria Police said that the death was not being treated as suspicious, but said that it was too early to say if the death was linked to the abduction.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Detectives involved in the abduction inquiry have been informed. However, it is too early to determine whether there is any link."
The house remains sealed off.
The six-year-old girl was abducted from the bath in her home in Willington Quay on December 27. She was later found naked in an alleyway in the area, in a distressed state.
