New leads in PC murder investigation
Police investigating the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky are following new leads after an appeal on BBC’s ‘Crimewatch’ programme last night.
Detective Superintendent Andy Brennan, who is leading the investigation, said that police had received “some interesting calls” following the programme on Tuesday night.
Police are still trying to trace the last of three suspects wanted in connection with PC Beshenivsky’s murder. Mustaf Jama, 25, is believed to have links with Sheffield, Birmingham, Coventry and Leicester, although police have not ruled out the possibility that he could be anywhere in the country.
His brother, nineteen-year-old Yusuf Jama, has already appeared in court charged with PC Beshenivsky’s murder, while another suspect. Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 24, was arrested earlier this week in Newport, south Wales. He is still being questioned by police in West Yorkshire, along with a 23-year-old man who was also arrested.
Det Supt Brennan said: "I would urge people who were not in a position to watch Crimewatch last night to look at the image in papers and on TV of Mustaf Jama and to contact us if they know where he is. It is vital that we speak with this man as part of our enquiries."
PC Beshenivsky was shot dead as she went to investigate an armed robbery at a travel agency in Bradford last month. Her colleague, PC Teresa Milburn, was also injured during the incident.
Rewards totalling £90,000 have been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for PC Beshenivsky’s death.
Anyone with information can contact police on: 01274 373700 or Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
