Man killed in factory gas explosion

A man has been killed and three others injured, following an explosion at an aerosols factory in Liverpool.

According to reports, there was a huge blast at North West Aerosols on Brookfield Drive in Aintree this morning, which caused a fire. A series of smaller explosions, involving aerosol cans, followed.

The dead man, whose name and age have not yet been confirmed, is understood to have died at the scene.

Three other men suffered burns in the blast. Two men, one aged 25 and the other aged 26, are understood to have suffered severe burns to their face, hands and neck.

Roads around the factory have been closed. Investigators from the Hazardous Materials Unit and Health and Safety Executive have also attended the scene.

Man in court over 1995 murder
A man is due to appear in court charged in connection with the murder of a man more than 11 years ago. The body of Robert Higgins was found in Craigs Quarry, Milrig Farm in Kirkliston, West Lothian on May 1, 1995. He had been stabbed to death.

Grimsby factory closure sees 600 jobs axed
Around 600 jobs are to go at Unilever after the company revealed that it had failed to find a bidder for its Grimsby factory. The plant, part of Unilever Ice Cream & Frozen Food division which makes Birds Eye Frozen Food, will close following an 11-month review "involving extensive discussions with employees".
