Former soldier cleared of murdering son
A former SAS soldier has been found not guilty of murdering his terminally ill son at Lewes Crown Court.
Andrew Wragg, 38, had been charged with suffocating his ten-year-old son Jacob at the family’s home in Worthing, West Sussex, on July 24 last year.
He admitted manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.
Jacob was suffering from Hunter Syndrome – an extremely rare disease, which caused progressive physical and mental deterioration – and was not expected to live beyond his mid-teens.
Mr Wragg had claimed that Jacob’s death was a “mercy killing”. He was given a two-year suspended sentence.
