Three released over PC shooting

Three people arrested in connection with the killing of PC Sharon Beshenivsky have been released without charge.

Two men, both aged 22 and a woman aged 18 were released on Tuesday. Three other men, aged 18, 24 and 31, are continuing to be questioned by police.

PC Beshenivsky, 38, was shot dead by armed robbers as she arrived to answer a call at a travel agency in Bradford on Friday afternoon. She was married, with three children and two stepchildren and had been a constable for just nine months.

Her colleague PC Teresa Milburn, 37, was wounded in the shoulder during the incident.

Police confirmed that neither officer was armed, although they were wearing body armour.

Mohammed Ishaque, the nephew of the travel agency owner, Mohammed Yousef, told ‘The Sun’ newspaper that three men had entered the travel agency on Friday afternoon – one wielding a machete and the others carrying guns.

He said that the gang escaped with just under £2,000 and said that as they fled the scene, they were “firing like cowboys in a Western movie”.
