Northern Britain warned of severe weather

Northern Britain could face severe weather conditions this weekend, with severe gales predicted for many areas.

The Met Office is forecasting extremely windy weather across many parts of northern Britain during Friday and Saturday.

Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to bear the brunt of the bad weather, with predictions of gusts of 70mph or more as another major Atlantic storm tracks across the country. Cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast could face disruption due to the severe weather, the Met Office warned.

However, there is also a risk of exceptionally severe gales, with gusts over 80mph, across central and northern Scotland and northern parts of Northern Ireland. The Met Office warned that the winds could bring disruption to power supplies and transport and that there was a possible danger to life.
