Search continues for missing teenagers

A large air and sea search continued on Friday for the two teenage boys swept off a cliff by a wave on Thursday evening.

The search, involving coastguard and police helicopters, lifeboats and on-shore rescue teams began last night.

However, on Friday as a trainer thought to belong to one of the missing boys was located, hope was fading.

Earlier on Friday, senior Coastguard officer Mark Rodaway said that, because of the sea conditions and the duration of the search, the chances of a successful outcome was becoming less likely as the search continued.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening at Lulworth Cove, Dorset, as the area was struck with heavy rain and strong winds.

A group of three teenagers had been climbing from Lulworth Cove around the west point towards Stair Hole, when two of the boys – aged 15 and 16 – were swept into the sea by a wave.

After entering the water to try and rescue his friends, the third boy raced to a nearby hotel to raise the alarm.

A major search operation involving helicopters, lifeboats, an shore parties continued throughout Friday.
