Autumn gales forecast for UK
Forecasters are warning that the current spell of unsettled weather will see very strong winds and heavy rain sweep across many parts of the UK tomorrow and Thursday.
A fast-moving Atlantic depression will track across the country through Thursday and Friday. Southern areas of England and Wales will see the worst effects of this weather first as winds gust to 60-70mph and bands of heavy rain move in through Wednesday night and Thursday possibly causing minor damage and localised flooding.
On Thursday night as the storm system heads towards Scandinavia, northern areas will be hit by very strong winds again expected to reach 60-70mph in places and more heavy rain is forecast.
While this weather sytem is not expected to reach the trigger points for the issue of an Early Warning from the Met Office, and widespread disruption is not expected, the impact of the weather can sometimes be exacerbated by other factors.
There are concerns that this could be the case over the next couple of days as many areas are already suffering from wet ground and some trees are still in leaf.
