Third man arrested over Birmingham stabbing

A third man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a man during the riots in Birmingham last weekend.

West Midlands Police confirmed that a man in his early twenties, from Birmingham, had been arrested and was being questioned by police.

Two other men, aged 22 and 25, from Birmingham, are also being held in connection with the murder of Isiah Young-Sam last Saturday.

Mr Young-Sam, a 23-year-old IT worker for Birmingham City Council, was stabbed in the chest as he walked along Carlyle Road, in the Lozells area of the city with his brother and two friends.

Another man was shot dead on Sunday, following the outbreak of violence, involving black and Asian youths, in the Lozells area at the weekend.

Thirty-five people were also injured.

It is believed that the violence was sparked by claims that a gang of Asian men had raped a Jamaican girl.

However, police said that no evidence of the rape had been found and the alleged victim had not come forward.

The claims are also alleged to have been spread via a pirate radio station.
