Two men released without charge in Birmingham shooting

Police have released two men without charge following a police inquiry into a weekend shooting incident in the Newtown area of Birmingham.

On Sunday, a man was shot dead near to the location of Saturday's riots in Birmingham.

The rioting, which broke out in the Lozells area in the south of the city on Saturday between black and Asian groups, was reported to have been set off by allegations that a young girl had been raped. However, police said that while extensive investigations had been carried out, no victim of a sexual assault had been identified.

During Saturday night's disturbances on Lozells Road, 22-year-old IT worker Isiah Young-Sam was stabbed on Carlyle Road. He later died in hospital. Police said he was an innocent victim.

During the same incident his friend was stabbed in the back. In all, around 35 people were treated for injuries related to the disturbances.

Following the riots there was a heavy police presence in the area on Sunday.

Police said that a number of arrests had been made in connection with the disturbances at the weekend.

Major Police Hunt Launched After Boy Taken From Hospital
A major police hunt has begun after a five-year-old boy with a brain tumour, was taken by his family without consent from Southampton General Hospital. Police said that Ashya King was taken from the hospital by Brett King, 51, and Naghemeh King, 45, on Thursday. It is thought he may have been taken to France.

'Skull Cracker' In Custody In London
Kent Police, in partnership with officers from the Metropolitan Police Service, have arrested two men in East London on suspicion of conspiracy to commit armed robbery. On 3 May, Kent Police began a search for Michael Wheatley, 55, who had failed to return to HMP Standford Hill after being released on temporary licence.

Riot Police Deployed As G8 Protesters Occupy Former Police Station
Some 100 riot police have been deployed in central London as protestors take to the streets to demonstrate ahead on the G8 summit being held in Northern Ireland next week. Officers were sent to Soho, where protesters are thought to have occupied a former police station on Beak Street.
