Learner driver jailed over toddler death
A learner driver who killed a two-year-old boy while driving unsupervised has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Paul Cambray, 46, from the Isle of Wight, was convicted of dangerous driving earlier this year at Portsmouth Crown Court.
The incident happened when Cambray’s car went over a sea wall onto the beach at Yaverland on July 24 last year. Maximillian Young, from west London, was killed when the car landed on the beach and his father Charles was seriously injured.
The court also heard evidence showing that Cambray had driven unsupervised on several occasions before the accident.
Cambray was sentenced to eight years for causing death by dangerous driving. He also received a three-year sentence for wounding Mr Young and a 12-month sentence for dangerous driving. The sentences are to run concurrently.
He was also banned from driving for ten years and was told that he would have to complete an extended driving test after the ban.
