Security alert disrupts Manchester Airport

Police have arrested a man after a suspect package was found at Manchester Airport.

The security alert has closed parts of Terminal 1 and 2 and incoming flights have been redirected to Terminal 3.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a man has been arrested under the Terrorism Act following an incident at Manchester Airport.

A spokesperson said Police were called at around 8.30am after a man was seen acting suspiciously in an area of the airport's apron near to where aircraft are parked.

A Taser stun gun was used to subdue the man when he resisted arrest.

He was later detained under the Mental Health Act.

Parts of the Terminal 2 building and Terminal 1 building were evacuated as the incident was investigated. Army Technical Officers called to the scene examined a suspect package found on the apron and subsequently carried out a controlled explosion.

Passengers were advised not to travel to the airport and to contact their airline for information. But the airport is returning to normal following the incident.
