Four arrested over teenager beach death

Four teenagers have been arrested, in connection with the murder of a teenager whose body was found on a Swansea beach at the weekend.

South Wales Police confirmed that four males – two aged 15 and two aged 17 – had been arrested shortly after 8am on Wednesday morning, in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Ben Bellamy. They are currently being held at police stations in South Wales and are helping police with their enquiries.

Ben’s body was found on the beach in Swansea on Sunday morning. A post mortem revealed that he died from head injuries. The teenager had been to Cinderella’s nightclub in Mumbles on Saturday night and left the venue at around 2am.

He was last seen at the Texaco Garage, Blackpill on Oystermouth Road around 3.30am on Sunday morning.

Police believe that he was with a group of other male teenagers at the garage.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Ben’s uncle Tony Rees said: “His [Ben's] mother, father and especially his younger brother Karl are devastated and their lives will never be the same again.

“Please - if anyone has any information, however insignificant you think it is, think of Ben. Please come forward and tell the police. Our family is going through hell and we need to know what happened to Ben.”

The four teenagers arrested on Wednesday are believed to have been part of the group at the garage. Police are still attempting to trace the others.

Detective Superintendent Ken Isaac said: “I must emphasise that the investigation does not stop here and I would still like to appeal to anyone else who may have seen Ben between Saturday night and Sunday morning, or know anything that may be relevant to the enquiry to contact us, to help building a better picture of what had happened to him.”

Anyone with information are asked to contact the Incident Room on 01792 562 731 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
