Bomb suspect to be extradited from Italy

One of the suspects wanted for the July 21 attempted bomb attacks in London has lost his appeal against extradition from Italy.

Ethiopian-born Hussain Osman, 27, who is also known as Hamdi Issac, is accused of attempting to detonate a device on a Tube train near Shepherd’s Bush, two weeks after the suicide bomb attacks in the capital, which killed 52 people.

Osman was arrested in Italy a week after the attack, after fleeing across Europe by train. He has been held in Rome since then, charged with international terrorism and possessing false documents.

Britain was granted permission to extradite Osman to stand trial over the attacks by an Italian court last month. However, Osman’s lawyer, Antonietta Sonnessa, appealed against the decision, arguing that it was “incomplete”.

The decision was upheld by the Court of Cassation on Tuesday and cannot be appealed against again. The lawyer representing the British government, Paolo Iorio, said that Osman was expected to be returned to the UK within ten days.

Four other men have been charged in relation to the attempted bomb attacks, on three Tube trains and a bus on July 21. The three suspected bombers – Ibrahim Muktar Said, 27, Yassin Hassan Omar, 24 and Ramzi Mohamed, 23 – face charges of attempted murder and possessing explosives.

A fourth man, Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, 32, has also been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to cause explosions, in relation to the same attacks.

All four men are due to reappear in court on November 14.
