CCTV footage examined following train deaths

Police are examining CCTV footage, after a woman jumped in front of a train, clutching her two children, in west London.

The tragedy happened at Southall station on Wednesday. The 27-year-old woman jumped in front of the Heathrow express train, along with her five-year-old daughter and baby son.

The mother and daughter were killed instantly, when the train, which was travelling at up to 100mph, hit them. The baby boy suffered multiple injuries and died later in Ealing Hospital.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said that the incident was not being treated as suspicious and no one else was being sought in connection with their deaths.

The incident happened around 13:15 BST on Wednesday. The driver, who was treated for shock, is reported to have told accident investigators that he put on the brake when he saw the woman, but was unable to stop in time.

Several people on the platform are also believed to have witnessed the incident.

Around 80 passengers were kept on the train for around three hours after the incident and rail services were severely disrupted.
