Three questioned over Walker murder

Police have arrested another man in connection with the murder of black teenager Anthony Walker.

A 23-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on Thursday and is being questioned by police. Two men who were arrested at John Lennon Airport on Wednesday night are also still being questioned.

Police arrested Michael Barton, 17, the brother of Manchester City footballer Joey Barton, and Paul Taylor, 20, both from Huyton, Liverpool, as they returned from Holland.

Mr Barton and Mr Taylor had returned from Holland voluntarily, accompanied by a solicitor. The pair, who were reportedly also accompanied by relatives, were taken to a Merseyside police station for questioning.

Police said that Mr Barton and Mr Taylor were only two of a number of people they wanted to talk to regarding the murder, which took place on Friday night.

Mr Barton’s brother, Joey, made an appeal for him to contact police on Tuesday.

A gang of up to four men attacked Anthony Walker, 18, as he walked through a park in Huyton with his white girlfriend and cousin, Marcus Binns, both 17. He was attacked with an axe and died later in hospital.

Three men and a teenager have been arrested in connection with the inquiry. A 17-year-old male and three men aged, 18, 26 and 29 have all been released on bail, pending further inquiries.

Merseyside police said they had received an “overwhelming response” from the local community, but appealed for further information to aid their investigation.

Anyone with any information can contact the Incident Room on: 0151 777 8660 or Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
