Mistaken identity bomber shot eight times
The Brazilian man shot dead by armed police officers at London's Stockwell Tube station was shot eight times.
It emerged at a hearing on Monday that Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, aged 27, was shot seven times in the head and once in the shoulder by police.
He had an out-of-date student visa.
Last week, eyewitnesses reported that the man was seen running into the station pursued by police when he was shot several times by plain-clothes officers.
A Scotland Yard statement read: "We can confirm that at just after 10am this morning, Friday July 22, armed officers from the Metropolitan Police entered Stockwell tube station in south London. A man was challenged by officers and was subsequently shot.
"London Ambulance Service and the Helicopter Emergency Service attended the scene.
"The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Stockwell tube station is closed and cordons of 200 metres are in place.
As is routine, officers from the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed."
London was on high alert last week following four failed bomb attacks on the city's transport system on Thursday.
