Chohan family killers receive life sentences

Two men who murdered three generations of the one family have been jailed for life.

Kenneth Regan, 55, and William Horncy, 52, were found guilty of the murder of millionaire Amarjit Chohan and his family at the Old Bailey last week.

The court heard how Regan and Horncy murdered Mr Chohan in order to take control of his London freight company to use it to import drugs.

Mr Chohan’s wife, Nancy and her mother Charanjit Kaur were also murdered, as were the couple’s young sons – 18-month-old Devinder and two-month-old Ravinder.

The family were kidnapped from their home in February 2003 and murdered. Mr Chohan’s body was later found floating in the sea near Bournemouth in April and his wife’s body was found in the same area in July. Mrs Kaur’s body was found in November 2003, in a bay off the Isle of Wight. However, the bodies of Devinder and Ravinder have never been discovered.

Judge Sir Stephen Mitchell described the crimes of Regan and Horncy as “uniquely terrible”. He said: “Your characters are as despicable as your crimes. Each of you is a practised, resourceful and manipulative liar.”

A third man, Peter Rees, 39, was also sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Mr Chohan and assisting an offender. However, he was cleared of the other four murders.
