Bowyer to face public order charges
Newcastle United footballer Lee Bowyer will appear in court to face a charge relating to his on-pitch fight with team-mate Kieron Dyer.
The alleged incident between Bowyer and Dyer took place during Newcastle’s Premier League match with Aston Villa at St James Park in April. Both players were sent off and were subsequently banned by the FA – Bowyer for four matches and Dyer for three. Newcastle also fined Bowyer six weeks’ wages, a sum reported to be in the region of £200,000.
However, Northumbria Police launched an investigation into the alleged incident, after a member of the public reportedly expressed “concerns”.
A Northumbria police spokesperson confirmed today that Mr Bowyer had been summonsed to attend Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, charged with a public order offence, under section 4 of the Public Order Act.
The spokesperson said that Kieron Dyer would not face any further police action over the incident.

Bankrupt forger jailed for nine months
A bankrupt who forged letters in an attempt to get his bankruptcy order annulled was sent to prison for nine months at Swansea Crown Court today for perverting the course of justice. John Bowyer, 54, of Brairwood Gardens, Newton, Swansea, was made bankrupt on 13 July 2001 with debts of £105,630 following action by one of his creditors.

Bowyer receives speeding ban
Premiership footballer Lee Bowyer has been banned from driving after pleading guilty to speeding. The 29-year-old Newcastle United midfielder changed his plea to guilty before the start of his trial.
