Teenagers arrested following girl’s death
Four teenagers have been arrested following the death of a 15-year-old girl in Bradford last night.
Aimee Wellock collapsed minutes after an “altercation” between two groups of youths in a field near Canford Drive in the Allerton area of the city around 8:20pm last night. She was found unconscious and taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, but was pronounced dead at 9:45pm. Police said that post-mortem tests were carried out early this morning, but the cause of death has still to be determined.
A 15-year-old boy, a 19-year-old woman and two girls aged 15 and 17 have been arrested in connection with the incident.
A statement released by police on behalf of Aimee’s parents, Alan and Jackie Wellock and her 19-year-old brother James, said: “We are absolutely devastated and at a complete loss. Aimee was a typical teenager, full of life and vitality. She loved dancing and had attended dance classes since she was eight years old. She was due to start her GCSEs in September and after that she wanted to go to dance college.”
Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to contact them. Aimee was with friends at the time of the incident and it is understood that she went to the area regularly in the evening with friends. As it was a warm evening, police said that there might have a number of people in the area, which is a popular meeting place for local teenagers and dog walkers.
A police spokesperson said: “At approximately 8:20pm we believe there was an altercation between two groups of youths, believed to be a mixture of both male and female youths. A few minutes later, Aimee walked a very short distance and collapsed unconscious.”
Police have asked anyone with information to contact the Incident Room at Eccleshill Police Station on: 01274 376100 or text: 07733 123123.
