Glazer’s sons take positions on Man Utd board
Malcolm Glazer’s three sons have been appointed posts on the board of Manchester United football club.
It was announced that Joel, Avram and Bryan Glazer would take up posts as non-executive directors on the board, as the non-executive chairman Sir Roy Gardener confirmed that he would be resigning from his post.
Joel and Bryan Glazer are both executive vice-presidents of US football team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which is also owned by Malcolm Glazer. Both are said to have “extensive sports management experience”. Avram Glazer is the president and chief executive of the Zapata Corporation.
It has been reported that Joel will be Mr Glazer’s main representative on the football club’s board.
The Glazer family now almost totally control Manchester United, after Mr Glazer increased his shares in the club last month, acquiring over 75%. They will confirm their exact share of the club on Monday, when all replies from shareholders to their offer of £3 per share will have been received.
The American billionaire’s takeover of the Premiership club has angered many supporters.
It was also announced today that Jim O’Neill and Ian Mutch, two other non-executive directors on the Manchester United board have also resigned from their posts. However, the club’s commercial director, Andy Anson, has been reinstated, after Mr Glazer voted him off the board at the annual meeting last year.
David Gill will be staying on in the post of Chief Executive. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already said that he would be staying with the club.
