Photos published in football disorder inquiry

West Yorkshire police have published photographs of 28 people as part of an inquiry into violence at two Leeds United matches earlier this year.

A poster, featuring photographs of those the police wish to speak to, has been published on the police web site, following a four-month long investigation.

On January 15, officers outside of the club’s Elland Road ground were confronted by a crowd of up to 100 fans, who were throwing missiles, following a match between Leeds United and Cardiff City. Police said the trouble continued for about an hour until mounted police dispersed the crowd.

Fourteen people were arrested in connection with this disturbance last week and eleven of them have now been charged with public order offences.

There was also further disorder on February 26, following a match between Leeds United and West Ham United. Police said that they wished to speak to the last six people in on the poster as part of their inquiry into this disturbance.

Police said they are keen for people across the whole of Yorkshire to view the images, as it is believed that people from across the region would have been attending the matches.

Detective Superintendent Phil Sedgewick, who is leading the investigation, said: “Four months after the disorder, they probably think we have forgotten all about it. Today we are releasing their photos and appealing to anyone who may know who they are to let us know. You will not be asked to give evidence; we simply want to know who they are. If you see yourself in the poster, contact your nearest police station immediately.”
