Police officer suspended over racist allegations

A police officer has been suspended over allegations that he made racist threats to a teenager he arrested.

During a court hearing in London, it was revealed that the Kurdish teenager activated a voice recorder on his mobile phone when the Met constable arrested him in February.

During the two-and-a-half minute recording, the officer is alleged to have been heard swearing 18 times, accusing the youth of being a rapist and a robber and threatening to ‘smash his Arab face’ in.

The district judge, David Simpson, threw out the case against the teenager, who had been charged with threatening behaviour, after hearing the tape.

Scotland Yard confirmed that a 26-year-old constable had been suspended and that an investigation would take place into allegations of racial harassment.
